SOPPAN Submits Ten-Point Recommendations to NEA for Upcoming Solar Auction
08 Oct 2026
On October 7, 2026, a delegation from the Solar Power Producers’ Association Nepal (SOPPAN), led by President Dr. Sandip Shah, met with Mr. Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha, Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), to congratulate him on his appointment and submit a ten-point recommendation framework for Nepal’s upcoming solar auction.
Key recommendations include:
✅ Benchmark tariff of NPR 5.45/unit to discourage unsustainably low bids
✅ Development of a solar-specific PPA with NEA ensuring the Take-or-Pay principle
✅ Integration of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) with clear tariff mechanisms
✅ Provision for annual tariff escalation and 50-year PPA and license terms
✅ Establishment of stable and predictable rules for bidding, taxation, and compliance before the auction process
SOPPAN expressed appreciation to the Managing Director for his valuable time and commitment. SOPPAN will continue to collaborate with NEA to support a stronger, bankable solar energy sector and contribute toward a secure and sustainable energy future for Nepal.
